Phase 1 of the Abbott Smith Process entails
“Building a Partnership” with you,
our client. During this phase we partner with
you to obtain a firm understanding of the position(s)
and the needs of your organization. Based on
this understanding, we are able to mutually
agree on the structure of our search assignment
and the applicable engagement fees.
Search Structure
Our search professionals will work with you
to determine the scope of each engagement and
recommend a structure that bests suits the needs
for the specific opening(s) and your organization.
We generally recommend one of three options
described below.
Retained Search
Generally recommended for opportunities at the
Director level and above, retained search is the
most formal consulting project available to our
clients.
Retained searches involve an in depth analysis
during Phase 1 of the engagement which generally
includes on-site visits by our search professionals.
During the on-site visit we generally tour the
facility and interview key personnel involved
in making the hiring decisions for the specific
position. These interviews may include, HR representatives,
business unit representatives, colleagues, and
direct reports. Additionally, our clients often
ask our search professionals to help create
the job specifications for the position.
Contained Search
Generally recommended for opportunities in some
Director or Management level positions, as well
as positions requiring specific multiple skill
sets.
In a contained engagement, a nominal engagement
fee is negotiated up-front to initiate the search.
Contained service involves a thorough due diligence
process during Phase 1 of the engagement in
which we interview the HR representative on-site
or via telephone to obtain an understanding
of the client company, corporate culture and
the “musts, wants and nice to haves”
of the specific position(s).
Contingent Search
Generally recommended for low to mid level positions
and/or high volume opportunities with our clients.
A contingent search is initiated upon completion
of our initial evaluation and analysis of the
engagement opportunity. Compensation for contingent
searches is based on the successful placement
of a candidate. Before entering into a contingent
search, we will evaluate the type of sourcing
strategies used by our clients to determine
the potential impact of our services on the
successful placement of a candidate.
Engagement Fees
While we do not work with a standard fee
structure, engagement fees generally range between
25% - 33%. Fee negotiations take place at the
beginning of each search opportunity and are based
on several factors, including but not limited
to:
- The structure of the relationship with the
client
- The level and content of the specific position(s)
- The volume of opportunity with the client
Once the scope of the assignment has been defined,
our professionals have the flexibility to structure
a contract that makes sound business sense for
both parties.
